Orders: what Store Backup keeps

Orders are backed up so you can look them up and compare them. Restoring them is not available.

What is saved

Every order of your store, including orders older than 60 days, is saved by the daily backup, with:

  • its number, dates, status, notes and tags;
  • the customer's email and phone, the billing and shipping addresses;
  • the items, with their discounts, taxes and the shipping line;
  • fulfillments with their tracking numbers, payment transactions and refunds.

What you can do with a saved order

  1. Open Backups, open a backup, and choose the Orders tab.
  2. Search for the order by its number (such as #1001) and open it to read the saved version.
  3. Use Compare with my store to see what changed since, field by field, and the Version history to see each saved version.

Orders cannot be restored

Store Backup never writes orders to your store: it does not even ask Shopify for the permission to change them. An order put back by an app would be a new order with a new ID, not the original one. The app says so plainly: on an order, Restore this version is not available.

If an order was deleted or changed by mistake, the saved version gives you every detail you need to recreate it by hand in your Shopify admin, for example as a draft order.

Your other restores never touch orders

Restoring products, customers, pages or a whole backup leaves your orders exactly as they are, including the orders placed since the backup.
