Steps
- Pick a backup from before the problem. Open Backups in Store Backup and open the backup taken just before things went wrong.
- Find the product. Choose the Products tab, then search for it by its title or its ID (the search does not read SKUs). Open the product.
- Compare it with your store. On the Saved item page, click Compare with my store: you see, field by field, what restoring this version would change. The Version history lists every saved version, if you prefer another one.
- Click Restore this version. A restore has three steps: what, how, and a review.
- Choose how. Put items back as they were (the usual choice), or Only bring back deleted items. To restore some fields only, tick Only some fields and choose them: Description only is one click, and you can pick any other field, such as the variants (prices, SKUs and options).
- Check, then start. The review says exactly what will happen. Click Start restore and follow its progress.
Undo the restore
Before a restore overwrites a product that still exists, Store Backup saves the product as it is now. To undo, click Undo this restore on the restore page, or open the copy saved just before the restore in Backups.
Good to know
- A deleted product comes back with a new ID. Shopify never lets an app reuse the old one. Before creating it, Store Backup looks for a product with the same handle, so restoring twice never creates a duplicate.
- Restoring only some fields never re-creates a deleted product. A few fields are not a whole product: restore it whole first.
- Images and stock are separate kinds of data in a backup. To bring back the images or the stock of a product, restore them too, from the Product images and Stock by location tabs of the same backup.
- Restoring many products at once. In a backup, select several items, or click Restore this backup and choose Products. The same choices apply, including Only some fields.
